Douro Olive Oil: The Green Gold Born from Schist
There is a reason why olive oil produced on the banks of the Douro tastes unlike anything you have tried before. It is not just the fruit — it is the land, the climate, and centuries of knowledge accumulated by those who have always lived here.
Schist Soils, Singular Flavour
The olive trees of the Douro grow in the same schist soils that give rise to the region's celebrated vineyards. These poor, steep soils force the trees to work harder to survive, and it is that silent struggle which concentrates aromas and polyphenols in the fruit.
The result is an extra virgin olive oil of great complexity: fruity, with notes of green leaf and a characteristic peppery finish — a sign of high polyphenol content and exceptional quality.
Early Harvest, Cold Pressed
The olives are harvested while still green, when polyphenol levels are at their peak. Within hours of picking, they are cold pressed, preserving all aromatic compounds and health benefits completely intact. Acidity below 0.3% is the hallmark of a truly exceptional olive oil.
A Thousand-Year Tradition
The olive trees of the Douro carry long memories — some count centuries of history. At Segredos do Côa, we honour that heritage by producing certified organic olive oil using traditional methods and rigorous quality control.
Drizzle it raw over artisan bread, finish a freshly grilled fish, or dress a simple salad — and discover what terroir means in a spoonful.
